All of Us, Waving
All of Us, Waving brings together artwork created by children from primary schools across Ellesmere Port. Working with Theatre Porto, community artist Jake Ryan, pupils designed flags inspired by what matters most to them as part of the wider school’s art project ‘Through the Eyes of Children’.
The display reflects the values that emerged across the work including kindness, safety and friendship, expressed through the children’s chosen symbols and creative ideas. We hope you enjoy the flag designs arranged as a special display for the amphitheatre following the Through the Eyes of Children exhibition.
Through the Eyes of Children brought together artwork from the following schools; Rivacre Valley Primary School; The Oaks Community Primary School; Wolverham Primary and Nursery School; Sutton Green Primary School; Whitby Heath Primary School; St Bernard’s Roman Catholic Primary and Nursery School; Woodlands Primary School; Parklands Primary School. This project is part of Edge of Wonder, a place partnership programme supporting child-centred culture and creativity in Ellesmere Port.

Through the Eyes of Children brings together work created by children from 8 primary schools across Ellesmere Port as part of Refugee Week 2026 at Theatre Porto.
Developed collaboratively with schools across the town, the exhibition explores ideas of migration, belonging, welcome and community through children’s perspectives, experiences and imaginations.
Working alongside artist and curator Jake Ryan, each school has developed its own creative response to the project, resulting in an exhibition shaped directly by children’s ideas, voices and making.
As part of Theatre Porto’s ongoing work as a Theatre of Sanctuary and marking one year since receiving Theatre of Sanctuary status, the exhibition transforms the theatre into an immersive environment inspired by movement, transit and temporary journeys.
Alongside artwork created by participating schools, the exhibition also includes various artwork from the Sanctuary Seeking Community in and around the Ellesmere Port area – these pieces have been created through Arts engagement workshops delivered by Theatre Porto in collaboration with families, schools and colleges. This brings together a wider range of lived experiences, perspectives and voices.
The exhibition includes children’s drawing, sculpture, text, sound, collaborative making and interactive elements, reflecting the wide range of approaches developed by participating schools and community groups. Alongside these works, a series of large-scale flags created by Jake Ryan from children’s words, symbols and drawings explores ideas of kindness, acceptance and belonging.
At the centre of the project is the idea of seeing the world through the eyes of a child. The exhibition draws on children’s strong sense of fairness, empathy and justice, inviting audiences to reflect on what it means to welcome others and create places where people feel safe, valued and included.
The exhibition is open to members of the public as well as school groups, welcoming audiences of all ages to engage with the work and the conversations it inspires.
