Dear Friend / Supporter,
For over ten years, Theatre Porto has proudly partnered with Cheshire College South & West on an aspirational peer education project that brings together learners of all ages.
Born from the DCMS-funded ‘Aim Higher’ initiative, the project was developed to inspire a love of creativity and learning, and open up pathways into education for young people from low socio-economic backgrounds, and those who face other barriers to participation.
Over the years, Theatre Porto has connected primary school children, secondary-school aged Young Writers, and College / University students across multiple projects which uses child-centred creativity and new writing as the basis of an inspiring performance project.
This year marks an exciting new chapter: for the first time, we’re teaming up with Cheshire Dance to co-create a new collaborative, dance-theatre performance, for primary schools.
Cheshire Dance would like to thank the Westminster Foundation for generously funding their part in this exciting project as part of Cheshire Dance’s NEXUS programme.
The special performance project is:
- Made with the ideas of children – Using the voices and writing of KS2 children from four local primary schools, whose words form the soundtrack to the performance
- Created by young theatre makers – Devised with students from Cheshire College South & West, with professional artists from Cheshire Dance and Theatre Porto
- An exploration of emotions and emotional resilience from a child-centred perspective
- A celebration of learning and creativity
