Join Our Team: Audience Engagement Volunteer
We’re on the lookout for brilliant Audience Engagement Volunteers to help us run our vibrant, welcoming venue in Whitby Park, Ellesmere Port.
This volunteer role is ideal for people who:

- Want flexible, low‑pressure volunteering
- Like helping visitors and making people feel welcome
What Volunteers Do
- Welcome audiences and create a friendly atmosphere
- Chat with visitors, answer questions, and offer assistance
- Share info about shows, events, and opportunities at Theatre Porto
- Support the FOH team by being an extra visible, approachable presence
- Promote donation and membership options in a relaxed, friendly way
- Help guide visitor flow and support chilled/family events
- Attend short pre‑show briefings
Time Commitment
- Completely flexible — volunteers choose their availability
- Shifts typically last 3–4 hours on weekends
- No pressure or minimum hours required
Who It Suits
- Warm, friendly, confident talking to others
- Reliable and happy to move around the venue
- Comfortable sharing information and offering help
- No theatre experience needed — full training is provided
- Desirable (but not essential): customer service & arts experience
Training & Support
Full training includes venue and FOH induction, customer service guidance, audience engagement tips, safeguarding awareness, health & safety procedures, and shadowing opportunities.
They are supported by:
- Head of Operations (Most Comms through)
- Head of Facilities
Safeguarding & Requirements
- Volunteers must follow Theatre Porto’s safeguarding policies
- DBS required — Theatre Porto will fund it if no DBS in place
