WE ARE THE KIDS! THIS IS OUR PLAY! LISTEN TO WHAT WE HAVE TO SAY!
KIDS TALK CLIMATE is a new play that tells the story of some people meeting to discuss what they might do about the climate crisis. It explores this serious theme through a collective act of play.
In this play the audience do the acting. Everyone in the room plays the people at the meeting. Then toward the end, everyone can have their say. You have the power. It’s all part of the play.
There’s no need to worry! A host will guide you and show you how. The first part of the play is planned. Organised. Written down. Then toward the end of the play you get to share your thoughts. Talk about what this has got do with you. Talk about how we can act. Tell everyone else what you think we should do.
KIDS TALK CLIMATE has been created by award-winning Theatre Makers Andy Smith & Lynsey O’Sullivan and is the latest of their acclaimed project PLAYS FOR THE PEOPLE. The play builds on their previous project, A CITIZENS’ ASSEMBLY, a work made in consultation with – amongst others – scientists from the Tyndall Centre for climate change research and that has been touring schools, theatre and community venues across the UK since January 2024.
KIDS TALK CLIMATE has been supported by the Social Responsibility fund at The University of Manchester. Like all of the works in the PLAYS FOR THE PEOPLE project, it looks to create a chance to approach a big and complex subject with a sense of agency and even joy.
KIDS TALK CLIMATE is a chance to discuss and act on something challenging and difficult with young people aged 8-10 with a sense of pleasure, passion and purpose.
