We would be delighted if you could join us for the launch of Topsy Turvy 2025 and presentation of ‘As Colourful as a Box of Surprises’, this years art installation created by local primary school children with Theatre Porto Community Artist, Jake Ryan.
Join us for a complimentary glass of fizz (non-alcoholic beverages available) and help us celebrate children’s creativity as we hear about what’s been going on at Theatre Porto and this year’s Topsy Turvy.
Topsy Turvy 25 (8th – 10th August)
Theatre Porto’s joy-filled, outdoor arts celebration returns to beautiful Whitby Park in Ellesmere Port this summer! Get ready for an inspiring Topsy Turvy 25, a weekend of imaginative and awe-inspiring performances and special events put together especially for children, young people and local families.
As Colourful as a Box of Surprises
Theatre Porto Community artist Jake Ryan, has been working in 6 local primary schools, exploring self-expression through language and visual art. The result is a new artwork ‘As Colourful as a Box of Surprises’ which we are proud to present as a centrepiece of our Topsy Turvy 2025 launch event.
The basis of the artwork is playful similes to describe positive personal qualities — such as “I am as lively as a dance floor full of spinning tops” – transforming them into bold, abstract artworks using colour, shape, and composition. This accessible process has encouraged creativity, confidence in writing and speaking, artistic experimentation and self expression.
